We were at Go Media Stadium for the top of the table match between Auckland FC and Adelaide United FC and what a game it turned out to be, a goal-packed match ending in a 4-4 draw … with two of those goals in EXTRA TIME! (One goal each)

The Auckland FC Goals were:

It was great to see Guillermo May getting a couple of goals in front of his parents who were visiting from Uruguay before they headed back. We met his parents (and his brothers) at Lilyworld for the Auckland FC vs. Wellington Phoenix derby. That’s one of the advantages of knowing Spanish. 🙂

Here is Guillermo May’s second goal below:

The Adelaide United Goals were:

⚽️ 30′ Jordan Elsey

⚽️ 61′ Zach Clough (Penalty)

⚽️ 79′ Zach Clough (Penalty)

⚽️ 98′ Bart Vriends

Yes, two of Adelaide’s goals came from SOFT penalties. One had all the local fans scratching their heads as the penalty was only called later while Auckland FC was attacking and in the final third. Weird!

If you heard booing on the TV it was all the local fans against the referee, not the players.

As you can see, there were two goals in extra time, just like what happened when Auckland FC was visiting Adelaide United a few weeks ago. Today’s match at the fortress felt like a loss more than a draw.
